Pre-Tour Arrival - SCOTTSDALE/PHOENIX (Optional)

Arrive Phoenix/Scottsdale

Evening on own.

Day 1– SCOTTSDALE/PHOENIX/WALNUT CANYON/GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK

Depart from our pre-tour Phoenix hotel via Mini-motorcoach/Van - Phoenix to Grand Canyon.

Travel north through the Sonoran desert to Walnut Canyon National Monument. We will walk in the footsteps of the Sinaguan people who lived at Walnut Canyon more than 700 years ago when the walls echoed with the words and sounds of this vital pueblo community. Peer into their homes, cliff dwellings built deep within canyon walls. The presence of water in a dry land made the canyon rare and valuable to its early human inhabitants. It still remains valuable today as habitat for plants and animals. Discover for yourself on the rim or into the depths on the Island Trail. Enjoy a hearty picnic lunch along the Walnut Canyon rim in the Ponderosa Pine forest.

Our adventure continues as we head further north through the shadow of the aspen’s at the foot of the San Francisco peaks of the Coconino National Forest.

Approaching the rim from the surrounding plateau, the landscape gives no hint of the wonders that await our next 3 days. By mid afternoon we will arrive for our first breathtaking view of the Grand Canyon, impossible to forget with images of fantastically colored striated bands of red, orange and gold.

Stretch your legs with an orientation walk as your guides give you a preview of the adventure that lays ahead.

A welcome dinner awaits in the perfect light as the shadows lengthen in to the timelessness of this natural wonder of the world.
